Tile roofs have a beautiful look that everyone finds appealing. They are very popular in the Southwest and many homes in San Diego have this look that give them a certain unique appeal.

If you are considering installing clay tile roofing yourself, be forewarned they are very heavy. If you do end up doing the work, make sure you have someone else to help you in case you get stuck or trapped by the tiles.

Most people elect to have a licensed contractor install the tile roof as it can be quite an endeavor if you've never done that before. If you decided to use a contractor make sure to get at least 3 estimates and evaluate the references. You can also check with the Better Business Bureau to see if the company has positive or negative feedback from previous customers.

Tile roofs look cylindrical - almost like a pipe was cut down the middle and then split apart. When installing this roofing material you overlap the tiles - that's how you get that smooth rounded look that you've probably seen many times before. Tile roofs are more expensive than tar shingle roofs, but there is a definitely quality to the material and the look is something many people strongly desire.

Clay tile roofs are earth toned in color and really are the most popular of all the tile roofs. If you decide to go for a tile roof - do it right and you will be happy as they can last at least 20 years.
