Infrared Saunas - Carbon Vs Ceramic
If you've already done any reading on infrared saunas then you undoubtedly have come across some literature that made reference to carbon saunas. So then just that are they and just what is carbon? Also, is there any chance that it could in some way be hazardous to your health?
Hey! Who can blame you for thinking these things. After all, how many times in the past has some new product that utilized some new substance with a chemical sounding name turned out to be not such a hot idea. So will you be breathing any of this carbon?
OK. Here's the deal. The carbon is in the heating element that provides the infrared energy. At no time will you come in contact with it and the carbon element does not generate any gas. This means that it has virtual no effect on the air you breath.
In fact, if you're wondering just what pure carbon looks like, just go out to your barbeque or your fireplace and take a look. This is because charcoal and burnt wood is essentially pure carbon. So do you feel safer now?
Next you have the choice of a ceramic heating element which has emerged as the most popular choice. Ceramic is the same stuff that your coffee cup is made out of, so it too is very safe in this respect. Ceramic heating elements have a larger surface area and also tend to be more durable over the long haul.
Ceramic heating elements do have one fault though and that is in spite of their longer life span, they are more delicate. This means that care must be taken when transporting infrared saunas that do have this type of heater in them.
