Steam Sauna vs. Infrared Sauna

There are primarily two different types of saunas - a traditional steam sauna and infrared saunas. While a steam sauna uses water and coals to create steam and increase the overall room temperature, infrared saunas use infrared bulb units to apply direct heat to the body. There are several reasons why people tend to choose infrared saunas over steam saunas. For one, installing a infrared sauna is much easier than the installation of a steam sauna. The operating costs of infrared saunas are significantly lower than those of a traditional steam sauna, and one of the greatest benefits are the health benefits that come from using an infrared sauna over a steam sauna.

The installation of an infrared sauna is much easier than the installation of a traditional steam sauna, and often times the hardest task in the installation process is finding where you want your infrared sauna to be installed in your house. The installation process doesn't even require professionals and could be done yourself if you are handy with some tools, where as a steam sauna would require an electrician and plumber, and the entire installation process could take several days. Running a traditional steam sauna is significantly more expensive than running an infrared sauna, where running an infrared sauna for 30 minutes would cost between 6 to 8 cents. On top of the running costs, a steam sauna takes about 30 to 90 minutes to heat up to a usable temperature as opposed to an infrared sauna which takes up to 20 minutes depending on the model sauna.

When it comes to health benefits, there is no doubt that infrared saunas reign supreme. For one, an infrared sauna only heats up the temperature of the body as opposed to a steam sauna which heats up the temperature of the body by heating up the temperature of the air. What this means is that the body is more at risk to dehydration with the temperature of the air increasing as well as body temperature, and it also means that with an infrared sauna you can safely stay within the sauna for longer sessions without increasing your risk to health issues. Another benefit of infrared saunas is that the infrared rays are able to penetrate deeper under the skin to get up toxins such as alcohol and nicotine that bury themselves deep under your skin. In the end, there are several reasons to choose an infrared sauna over the traditional steam sauna, as well as plenty of reasons to upgrade your steam sauna to an infrared one. Once you go with an infrared sauna you won't regret it.
