Even the most diet dysfunctional would probably lose weight on a low carb diet. When you cut down or eliminate high processed carbs from your diet, you will begin to burn more of the stored fat. Eating consciously prepared low carb meals will help you to lose the weight and keep it off.
You'll replace the processed carbs (pasta, potato, white rice, chips, etc.) with healthy protein, some good fat, leafy greens and certain vegetables.
Following a low carb diet does not mean cutting out all carbohydrates completely. You still need a little balance even while cutting out certain foods in your diet. The nice thing about cutting out the processed carbs is that you can replace them with complex carbs you're your body will actually love you for that. Complex carbs are those found in brown rice, whole grain breads and cereals, fruits, and other healthy carb choices. These complex carbohydrates are a much healthier choice because they digest in your stomach at a much slower pace than the sugary carb alternative that goes in your body and almost immediately converted to sugar which means right to fat.
As always, it's a good idea to speak to your doctor before embarking on any type of diet that excludes or significantly reduces a whole food group. He may also give you the advice to simply change your type of carbohydrate rather than completely eliminate carbs altogether. Losing weight is good but you don't want to do it for the cost of your health. You will find a surge of better health once the extra pounds begin melting off.
Most importantly while embarking on any weight loss plan don't completely deprive yourself of a treat now and again. You're going for a lifestyle change and part of that change means you will need have a balance in your diet. Whenever you tell yourself that you can't have something, chances are, you will want it more.
