Natural hormone replacement therapy as treatment
<!-- @page { margin: 2cm } P { margin-bottom: 0.21cm } A:link { so-language: zxx } -->
It is reported that in the next four years, more than 50 million women would be going through menopause. With so many women vulnerable to the symptoms of menopause, it is only natural that there is added interest in an effective menopause treatment. However, in 2002, the federal government took a decision to suspend the use of synthetic hormones in hormone replacement therapies following clinical trials that showed that synthetic hormones exposed patients to the risk of several health problems. This is what led to the development of natural hormone replacement therapy.
Doctors have recommended the use of bio-identical or natural hormones for treating symptoms of menopause, and more and more women are turning to natural hormone replacement therapy to get relief from symptoms like irritability, aging, loss of libido and weight gain.
So, how does natural hormone replacement therapy work?
Natural hormone replacement therapy was formulated in the late 1970s. Commercial production of these hormones started in the 1980s.
Bioidentical hormones are prepared in a lab from natural products like yams and soya. As a result, the hormones have the same molecular structure as the hormones found in the human body. These hormones are then made into oral pills, injectable medicines, patches or vanishing creams.
The patient is first subjected to tests that help evaluate the precise levels of hormones being produced by the body. After this, doctors recommend the precise levels of hormones to be administered to the patient. Regular health checkups measure the amount of hormones in the body and help maintain this vital balance.
Natural hormones have a number of advantages over synthetic hormones. Since they are tailored to suit the requirements of the individual, it is possible to take them orally, sublingually or transdermally. A doctor can also make changes to the doses according to individual requirements.
Natural hormones help alleviate the symptoms that arise from hormonal imbalance. In particular, these are very helpful in women experiencing menopause because at this stage, estrogen, progesterone and testosterone levels decline. The treatment is also beneficial for men suffering from depleting levels of testosterone.
Some of the benefits of natural hormone replacement therapy are:
In men:
-
Increased muscle mass
-
Low body fat
-
Improves libido
-
Improved concentration
-
Greater energy levels
-
Less frequent episodes of mood swings
In women:
-
Smoother, healthy looking skin
-
Freedom from discomforts like hot flashes and nigh sweats
-
Reduced risk of osteoporosis
-
Better sex drive
-
More energy levels
-
Freedom from mood swings

Doing What Works in Brief Therapy $67.95 The first of its kind, Doing What Works in Brief Therapy is a guidebook to strategic solution focused therapy, a model which combines the principles and techniques of the Mental Research Institute's brief strategic therapy and the Brief Family Therapy Center's solution focused therapy. The book explains how the strategic emphasis on clarification of the problem and interruption of what does not work can complement and enhance the solution-focused emphasis on amplification of what does work. The text reviews the theory and presents specific treatment techniques. Case examples illustrate how the model has been used in brief, intermittent, and single-session therapy in a managed care setting. Brief psychotherapy doesn't have to result in chronic frustration for the therapist or superficial, second-rate care for the client. This book presents an approach that is upbeat, practical, and eminently workable in managed care. The reader learns to focus on critical issues with exquisite precision and to construct creative, individualized interventions that amplify what works and interrupt what does not. Key Features * Integrates strategic therapy and solution focused therapy * Includes guidelines for intervention and when to do what * Provides applications for couples: indications for separate or joint sessions * Considers both therapy and medication as successful and unsuccessful solutions * Features excerpts and clinically rich examples |

Proton Therapy Physics $133.94 Proton Therapy Physics goes beyond current books on proton therapy to provide an in-depth overview of the physics aspects of this radiation therapy modality, eliminating the need to dig through information scattered in the medical physics literature. After tracing the history of proton therapy, the book summarizes the atomic and nuclear physics background necessary for understanding proton interactions with tissue. It describes the physics of proton accelerators, the parameters of clinical proton beams, and the mechanisms to generate a conformal dose distribution in a patient. The text then covers detector systems and measuring techniques for reference dosimetry, outlines basic quality assurance and commissioning guidelines, and gives examples of Monte Carlo simulations in proton therapy. The book moves on to discussions of treatment planning for single- and multiple-field uniform doses, dose calculation concepts and algorithms, and precision and uncertainties for nonmoving and moving targets. It also examines computerized treatment plan optimization, methods for in vivo dose or beam range verification, the safety of patients and operating personnel, and the biological implications of using protons from a physics perspective. The final chapter illustrates the use of risk models for common tissue complications in treatment optimization. Along with exploring quality assurance issues and biological considerations, this practical guide collects the latest clinical studies on the use of protons in treatment planning and radiation monitoring. Suitable for both newcomers in medical physics and more seasoned specialists in radiation oncology, the book helps readers understand the uncertainties and limitations of precisely shaped dose distribution. |
