Electric Pool Heater

The electric pool heater is a cheaper alternative to the more traditional propane gas powered pool heater. Because the energy consumed is lower, and because no fuel is burnt, using an electric pool heater can effectively reduce your carbon footprint while saving money. However, this system is not without its drawbacks. In this article I'm going to talk about the benefits and drawbacks of using one of these heaters, and I'm going to tell you why I believe on balance it is the best way to keep your pool. I'm also going to tell you where you can get the cheapest electric pool heaters on the Internet, so that if you do decide to use this method to heat your pool you can save the most money.

Electric pool heaters (also known as heat pumps) work by sucking heat out of the nearby air and transferring that he to the water in your pool. The air is sucked in and compressed, raising the temperature, and water is run through a heat exchanger to pick up this heat. In the warmer months of the year, there's obviously a lot more thermal energy in the air to be recaptured this way. In the heart of winter, you cannot expect to get anywhere near as much heat through a electric pool heater because the air is much colder to start with. You will still get some heat, but it will not be enough to raise the temperature of your pool to an acceptable level unless you buy a very big and powerful electric pool heater -- the problem with this is that it would be more powerful than you need from most of the year, and a lot more expensive for that reason.

Running an electric pool heater is a lot cheaper than using a propane powered gas heater. Gas-fired heaters burn through the gas quite quickly, and you can find yourself spending as much as $3000 a year just to keep your pool warm. This figure is for Florida, so in colder climates you can visit expects no more than that. While there are some things you can do to reduce your heating bills without upgrading your heating system, it's a fact that using an electric pool heater is a much cheaper alternative.

With the cost of operation being so much lower for the heat pump, is there any reason why everyone doesn't have one of these systems? The main reason why they are not as widely used as they should be is because they quite expensive to buy and install. They can cost 3 to 4 times as much as a gas powered heat pump, which puts a lot of people off. However, with the very low running costs compare to the gas powered heaters, they pay for themselves usually within five years. This means that after the fifth year people are making a considerable saving by using these systems. When you get a swimming pool, it's a long-term investment so you should consider you heater in the same way.

As you can see, there are some compelling reasons to get an electric pool heater, but the biggest drawback is that it doesn't have the same performance all year round. Gas heaters, on the other hand, have the ability to produce the same amount of heat during the summer or winter. This is why some people install both an electric pool heater and a gas powered heater. Electric pool heater is the primary heater and provides most of the energy. In the coldest months the gas heater is used to boost the temperature up to an acceptable level

Now this solution is not for everyone, and not everyone even needs to use the pool we all year round. To some people, is simply not desirable to be using an outdoor pool when the weather is cold, no matter how warm the pool is. In this case, the difficulties that the pool heat pump has when struggling against cold weather are not an issue.

In conclusion, I think that an electric pool heater is a very efficient and effective way to heat your pool and can provide you with very real and significant savings compared to gas powered pool heaters. The biggest hurdle that most people face when buying and installing these heaters is the relatively high cost, but as it pays for itself within a few years it shouldn't be a reason to avoid using this efficient technology. To lower the price of installation, there is a website I recommend which gives you the lowest prices on all pool equipment. They literally guarantee the lowest prices, and if you can find a lower price they will undercut it.
