Have you got a sand pool filter system on your swimming pool? You may take that sand for granted but it is doing a lot for you and your swimming pool. Here are few interesting facts about your pool filter sand:
Interesting Fact #1 about your pool filter sand
When the sand is first put into your sand pool filter it is quite large and rough and is sized at around .45-.55mm. This size and roughness make the pool filter sand a more efficient filtering system as it can catch the debris particles in your water. Over time the sand becomes smoother and your pool filter sand becomes not as efficient. It is recommended that you change your pool filter sand every five years just to be sure it is working.
Interesting Fact #2 about your pool filter sand
Pool filter sand looks great in fish tanks. The white colour and smoothness of particles (when compared to rocks) gives your tank a great look. You can also be assured that pool filter sand is very clean, which makes it great for your fish as well as your tank. This inexpensive sand is great and can be purchased from most pool stores. Be prepared for some funny looks when you tell them what you want it for.
Interesting Fact #3 about your pool filter sand
You should vary the hours of operation of your sand pool filter depending on the season. During winter you only need your sand pool filter operating for 4-5 hours a day as pool usage will be low. During summer when pool usage is at its highest you should have your sand pool filter operate for 8-9 hours a day. During autumn and spring it will again vary but should on average run for about 7 hours a day.

To get a better understanding of how your sand pool filter works think about your coffee percolator or coffee machine. The coffee represents the sand in your sand pool filter. Water is pushed through the grinded coffee beans to create liquid coffee. In a sand pool filter dirty water is pushed through sand which removes debris and out comes clean water. Filtration systems like this are commonly used to clean water in our society.
