Maids washed kitchen floors, made beds and straightened the house for $5/day. A cook and cleaner here charges $80/week, whereas the same would cost $80/day in America. Some locals worry that the migration will increase the cost of living in the area over time, but given all the economic trouble state-side, the Americans living in San Miguel de Allende real estate seem pretty content with their choice, regardless.
