Features of Inground Pressure Automatic Pool Cleaners

Once you've decided to invest in an automatic pool cleaner for your inground pool to make maintenance easier, you have more decisions to make.  The first is whether to purchase a pressure-side, suction, or robotic pool cleaner.  In this article, we will discuss the features available in pressure auto pool cleaners. 

First, here's a little information about pressure-side automatic pool cleaners.  These cleaners use pressure from the return side of your pool's filter system to move around your pool.  Debris is collected in the cleaner's bag, not your filter, keeping your filtration system clean.  Pressure auto pool cleaners work extremely well in areas where there is a lot of foliage.  These cleaners plug into your return jet or use a separate booster pump.  If you don't have a booster pump built into your inground swimming pool, you can either buy a booster pump or select a pressure pool cleaner that doesn't need a booster pump.     

Now that you understand how pressure automatic pool cleaners work, here are some options to consider:

• Product design: A wide vacuum nozzle picks up more debris at once.  Front-wheel drive offers additional traction on inclined pool surfaces.  A wide base and four-wheel design will prevent tipping.  Some pool cleaners are specially designed to clean uneven pool bottoms.        
• Bag capacity and features: Pressure auto pool cleaners have debris bags that need to be emptied; a larger bag requires less-frequent attention.  A wider-mouth bag will make emptying easier, and a snap-lock on the bag prevents messes.      
• Time needed to clean: Of course, some automated pool cleaners accomplish the job faster than others.  You'll want to take your particular needs into consideration when making your selection.  Many pressure-side pool cleaners can clean a typical pool in about an hour.    
• Level of cleaning ability: Look for powerful suction in your pool cleaner.  A debris channel with a large intake throat removes both very small and larger waste products, such as leaves and twigs.  Some cleaners are designed to clean steps and corners especially well.     
• Surface cleaning ability: Some pressure pool cleaners are designed to clean the bottom, walls, and steps or your swimming pool, then rise to skim debris from the pool's surface.
• Programmable controls: Some automatic pool cleaners allow you to customize cleaning patterns.   
• Quality and number of water jets: Water jets propel auto pool cleaners around the pool, as well as circulate water.  Some jet sweeps are designed to blow water against pool walls to loosen debris in hard-to-reach places, like behind pool ladders.
• Vinyl-pool safe: Of course, this is only a concern if you have a vinyl-lined swimming pool, but if you do, be sure to choose a pool cleaner that will treat your vinyl gently. 
• Free shipping: Look for an online pool supply company that offers free shipping to save money. 
• Rebates: Manufacturer's rebates are available on some automatic pool cleaners, which will save you even more money. 
• Warranty: Some automated pool cleaners have manufacturers' warranties, providing peace of mind for your investment.
