Dirt and debris remains outside the cartridge and clean filtered water inside the cartridge is let out in to the pool through the outlet. These filters need to be cleaned once or twice a year.

Diatomaceous Earth (DE) Filters - This type of filter is basically a canister which has a network of fingers or tubes and a lot of plates inside it. These fingers and plates are coated with DE (a fine white powder of crushed sea fossils or diatoms) which traps dirt and debris from the water that passes through it. This is the most advanced type of pool filter and the quality of its filtration is the best among the three types.
