Old fashioned cartridge filters are built with the concept of setting up 3 to 4 cylindrical tubes that act as filtering mediums. The cylinders are made up of filaments of fine materials that have a smooth surface so that can trap dirt particles of minute size. The particles are held on the surface that clogs the cartridges. These then require cleaning. Such types of cylindrical filtering mediums are hard to clean for they require lot of washing and using of acid solutions. The filtering medium used allows only water to flow and impurities such as microbes, minerals and algae are held back. Such pool accessories require very little maintenance as there are replacement filter cartridges available for removing clogged in cartridges. If coagulated cartridges are to be reused, it can be easily done by washing it with a hose and using acids to release sticky substance.

Modern pool filters are much more advantageous compared to traditional filters and they are also easy to install.
