Kelowna Hot Tub Filters

Hot Tubs and Spas use filtration to keep the water clean and pure.  Filters are a necessary component to a well-maintained hot tub.  Choosing the filter that is correct for your particular model is very important. 

 

The purpose of a filter.  When you fill your hot tub the first time and each time thereafter, it is wise to use a pre-filter, available from your dealer, which attaches to your hose and takes out unwanted metals and bacteria at the source.  Once the tub is filled with water that is already clean and pure, it is much easier to maintain it through regular filtration.  A good filter will eliminate the need for using additional chemicals such as clarifiers, de-scummers, de-foamers, and cartridge cleaners.  Along with using cartridge filters, you can purchase an additional filtration system for some hot tub models.  This device floats on the surface of the water, collecting oil, hair, and other contaminants that you don't want in your hot tub.

 

The city of Kelowna has strict water quality assurance measures in place and monitors its water on a daily basis.  Measured against Canadian guidelines for chemical content, it falls well within the guidelines established.  Even so, filtration devices are necessary for every hot tub in order to maintain the water pureness as much as possible.  Chemicals also need to be used in addition to filters to ensure continual sanitation and regulation of hardness and pH balances.   

 

Care of your hot tub filter.  It is important to change your filter on a regular basis.  Many hot tub companies recommend that this be done every 4 to 6 weeks.  To clean a filter, remove it and rinse it thoroughly with a garden hose at high pressure.  Following this, soak it in filter cleaner to remove the contaminants that the hose does not remove, being sure to rinse it thoroughly once again to remove residue from the filter cleaner.  You can then return the filter to the hot tub.  At regular intervals, based on the recommendation of your hot tub’s manufacturer, you should replace the cartridge filter.  In fact, some hot tub manufacturers recommend using disposable filters to be discarded and replaced each time they are changed. Again, the manufacturer will recommend the filtration system that is best for your model, and you would be wise to follow those recommendations closely to keep your tub operating at peak performance.

 

Talk it up.  Check with other hot tub owners to see what they like or dislike about their filtration systems.  A good way to do this is to read blog posts on this topic.  This way you can be sure to get an unbiased report that you can trust and which may help you in your decision of which model to purchase.  You want to be sure that you are getting a hot tub that is relatively easy to maintain, and filtration is a fundamental component of a well-maintained hot tub.
