Will Medicare Completely Cover the Cost of My Lift Chair?

This question is probably often one of the very first questions that pops into the minds of people looking to purchase a lift chair, whether they're an elderly person in need themselves or just someone trying to help out a grandparent in need. But watch out if you think that just wanting a liftchair automatically entitles you to a full reimbursement from Medicare, think again. Unfortunately, Medicare no longer does full reimbursements for lift chairs outside of rare and extreme conditions. So in the case of getting a liftchair completely covered and paid for by Medicare, no it's not very likely.

However, don't be so quick to get disappointed and think your chances of getting a lift recliner covered are completely out the window. You can more than likely still get part of the cost of a lift chair covered, and while it probably won't be completely cost free, it will certainly help. Reimbursements will vary depending on your location, but more than likely you'll receive $200-$300 to help pay for the lifting mechanism for the liftchair.

We encourage those who are more physically challenged and greatly need a lift recliner to contact a doctor to get verification of your more extreme medical issues. There are larger reimbursements available for those with more severe medical conditions, and the last thing we want to do in this article is to scare you away from thinking a lift chair won't be covered by Medicare at all. Some people just simply need a lift chair more than others do, and if you're in that situation, don't give up.
