The water can be heated for about 1°C quite easily whenever you have sunlight of almost 5 hours a day. And thus pool water temperature will be able to increase within a week, by 10°C. And since there will be almost no loss of heat so the pool water will remain warm for a longer time period. But still it is better to cover your pool with solar pool cover whenever you are not using it for swimming. Solar pool covers only work when there is enough sunlight that is appropriate for heating the blanket. In this way there will be minimum heat loss and you will restrict the use of swimming pool.

Solar pool covers are effective enough that they reduce the heating water cost to about 50%. But in spite of all this, these pool covers are not so much popular. The main reason behind it is that these pool covers only work in areas that are abundant with sunlight. Those areas that have minimum or reduced sunlight because of some cold weather are hardly benefiting from these solar covers.  Getting these pool covers on and off water due to their giant size is a big hassle. It is also difficult to fold these huge solar sheets and it becomes a difficult additional chore for the swimming pool owners.
