When planning to update your bath, one of things you may need to think about is a new bathtub faucet. Although a bathtub faucet is a necessary part of your tub's hardware, it is not something that most people give much thought. If you are using any custom hardware in your bathroom besides the standard type fixtures, you may want to find a bathtub faucet that match the other hardware in your bathroom.

When you are shopping for a basic bathtub, stores normally display a basic chrome bathtub faucet installed on the tub. If you want a different type of hardware you can find faucets for sale at most any plumbing supply or home improvement store. If you want bronze, chrome, or brushed nickel bathtub faucet, you can find this type from brands such as Moen, Kohler, and American Standard, just to name a few.

Even if you are not redoing your entire bathroom, you may need to replace a leaky bathtub faucet with a new one. You can usually repair a leaky bathtub faucet but replacing an old faucet can make your bathtub look like new again. If you are not handy with tools it may be a job better left to the professionals. Fixing a leaky bathtub faucet isn't as easy as it seems like it would be and replacing a faucet isn't either. It is easy if you know what you are doing, but everyone isn't intended to be a plumber.

Before purchasing a bathtub faucet you should take a good look at the plumbing in your bathroom. Many old houses have faucets that are below the rim of the tub. The law doesn't allow this anymore due to back siphoning which can contaminate the water supply so you may need to do some research before installing a new faucet. If this is the case with your bathtub faucet, you may need to consult with a professional or hire a plumber to install the correct faucet on your tub for you.

A bathtub faucet is a very durable piece of hardware, but if you do happen to purchase a defective faucet you are usually covered by a limited warranty on the part. You can find a bathtub faucet to fit most any bathtub, but you do need to make sure that you buy the correct bathtub faucet for the plumbing that you have installed in your home. Bathtub faucets are one of those little things that we never think about that is so important.
