Benefits Of An Above Ground Pool

Above ground pools are great for those who have limited space or are on a limited budget.  They can be put up and filled in an afternoon for Summer fun.  

Above ground pools constitute about 50% of all pool sales in the country and are becoming more and more popular each year.  If you want a pool but don't have an extra $25,000 laying around, you may want to look into an above ground pool for you and your family.

1. Fun for you and you family

2. Socialize with friends and neighbors

3. Easier installation, maintenance, and repairs

4. Less debris in the pool from leaves and grass clippings. It's also more difficult for animals to gain access, especially dogs, cats, and even skunks. Yes, I've had to scoop a few skunks out of the pool. They don't seem to like getting in the leaf rake. I don't know why. I always thought they had a lovely disposition.

5. Great solution for a smaller backyard or where the water table seems a bit high. Locations such as the Northwest where 35-40 inches of rain per year is not uncommon, so many people prefer above ground pools.

6. In many cities an above ground pool in not considered a permanent structure so your property taxes may not go up. Check with your local officials for your specific rules and regulations.

7. Different construction patterns and liners are available

8. May be able to sell your pool and upgrade to a newer one

Negatives of an aboveground swimming pool

1. If you're a serious swimmer, an aboveground pool may not be right for you

2. Size restrictions

3. "Deep end" is usually no more than 4-5 feet

4. Usually no diving board, slide, or fancy waterfalls

5. Harder to lap swim due to its restrictive size

6. May not be able to have an above ground swimming pool designed to match your backyard or the design of your house

If you are passionate about pools, as I am, and can afford a great inground pool, then I say go for it.  Just remember you're looking at an average of a $25,000 investment and for those who are planning to stay in their homes for many years, an inground pool would probably fit better than an above ground pool.  For those with a limited budget and space, a good above ground pool may very well be what you and your children need on those blistering hot summer days.
